25/05/2021 മലയാളത്തിലെ നവതരംഗ സിനിമകള്‍                                         പി.കെ. സുരേന്ദ്രന്‍ 1970-കളില്‍ മലയാളത്തിൽ ജന്മം കൊണ്ട ഒരു സിനിമാ പ്രസ്ഥാനമാണ് ‘നവ തരംഗം’ (New Wave). ആര്‍ട് സിനിമ, സമാന്തര സിനിമ എന്നും ഈ പ്രസ്ഥാനം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ സിനിമകള്‍ മലയാള സിനിമയെ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സിനിമയുടെയും ലോക സിനിമയുടെയും ഭൂപടത്തില്‍ വലിയ രീതിയിൽ അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തി. സിനിമ ഒരു വ്യവസായമാണോ, കലയാണോ എന്ന ചോദ്യം ഈ അവസരത്തില്‍ ഉയരുന്നുണ്ട്. കച്ചവടം മാത്രം ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കിയുള്ളതാണ് മെയിന്‍സ്ട്രീം സിനിമകള്‍. ഇതിന് അതിന്റേതായ ധനസ്രോതസ്സും വിതരണ-പ്രദര്‍ശന ശൃംഖലയും ഉണ്ട്. വലിയ ജനക്കൂട്ടത്തെ തൃപ്തിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതായകയാല്‍ ഇത്തരം സിനിമകള്‍ വലിയ ലാഭം ഉണ്ടാക്കും. എന്നാല്‍ ഈ രീതിയില്‍ നിന്ന് മാറിയ ആര്‍ട് സിനിമകള്‍ക്ക് മുടക്കിയ പണം പോലും തിരിച്ചുപിടിക്കാന്‍ ആവുന്നില്ല. സിനിമയ്ക്ക് വലിയ മുതല്‍മുടക്ക് ആവശ്യമുള്ളതിനാല്‍, കഥയോ കവിതയോ എഴുതുന്നതുപോലെ അല്ലാത്തതിനാല്‍ ഇറക്കിയ പണം തിരിച്ചു പിടിക്കുക എന്ന വസ്തുത മറക്കാന്‍ പറ്റില്ല. സര്‍ക്കാർ ധനസഹായം കൊണ്ട് നിര്‍മ്മിച്ച സിനിമയാണെങ്കിലും ഇത് ബാധകമാണല്ലോ. മറ്

It is about a woman whose husband cannot satisfy her in bed, whose mother-in-law hates her for being bold, whose mother is dealing with mental health issues, whose brother is framed as a terrorist and is killed.
