I was in the bus, after college. It was weekend and I really wanted to watch a film to get out of the zone of Shakespeare and Milton, where I had been for the last one week. And that was exactly when my friend texted me about Senna Hegde's ' Thingalaazhcha Nishchayam', a film that bagged this year's state award for the best story and for the second best film.
The title ' Thingalaazcha Nishchayam ' says it all. The film is about an engagement that's going to happen on monday and the incidents going around it.

The protagonist ' Suja', who has found a partner herself, is being forced to marry an NRI guy, by her father 'Vijayan'. Vijayan is very much stubborn in getting ' Suja' married with this particular guy, that he selected,as his elder daughter married a guy of her own choice despite his opposition. And it is through the struggles of ' Suja' to get rid of this marriage, and the efforts of Vijayan to get this engagement happen, that the movie goes on.
Its obvious that,it is not the first time that the malayalam movie industry have had such a story of an authoritarian father trying to impose his rules in the family and of a daughter struggling to live with her loved one,but the making, the way story is said and what the director makes the character do, makes all the difference.
Right from the first scene, the director had been able to evoke a smile in the viewers, and he had been able to maintain it till the end of the film.
It is the detailing that makes the movie exceptional. Each scene is so engaging that we find each and every character having their own story. The cinematography is in such a way that, many times we forget the presence of a camera in between.
Though the movie says a simple story of 'Kuwait Vijayan' and his family, it slowly peeps into the socio economic events like the female entry at Sabarimala and the concept of democracy.
An authentic and an elegant movie that would dip you into the soul and beauty of Kanzhangaad.

Missing it would be indeed, a big loss.
